When Things Go Sour: Ethical Issues for Lawyers Regarding Disputes With Clients
|
|
This 1-hour session will discuss common sources of disputes between lawyers and clients, the interplay between ethical obligations (including the duty of confidentiality owed to current and former clients) and the lawyer’s ability to defend herself or affirmatively pursue relief, and some helpful techniques to lessen the risk for lawyers of disputes with their clients. This presentation will also focus on some practical advice for resolving disputes before they result in disciplinary complaints or legal malpractice claims, as well as addressing the practical realities of suing clients over unpaid fees.
